Kamil Śleszyński- Lost Place

Śleszyński is a self-taught documentary photographer based in Bialystok, Poland where he works on long term projects focusing on complex relationships between people. Usually shooting with an old 4×5 camera, he says how his subjects are interested in his shooting technique, making it a new experience, but on the other hand has a limited amount of shots therefore having to be very acurate with each one.

‘Lost Place’ tells the story about the Catholic Centre for Education and Addiction Therapy Metanoia. The facility helps young people addicted to drugs and alcohol. Located in the Knyszynska Forest (Poland), the building occupies the former administration building Agroma - plants which in the past produced agricultural machinery, home appliances, and probably also weapons. This is the place without an address. In the middle of the woods. The walls of the forgotten fabric make it so hard to see, making it invisible. This is the place, where some people found their asylum. Without old schematics, buddies, drugs. This subject results directly from my previous project Input/Output which consists of photographs made within a prison and in a re-entry centre that supports ex-prisoners. While working on the project, I found out that many of my subjects went to jail because of drug or alcohol related issues. I wanted to get to the root of the problem.
