Katarzyna Gebska- How humans shape natural environments?

There is no exact date which indicates the start of humans’ interaction into natural environments. The alteration of land by homo sapiens can be dated up to the earliest appearances of people. The modification of the world to adjust it to the needs was determined by requirements and human’s necessities. Instead of adapting to the land, humans decided to modify it so it fits them.

Currently our desires to make world a perfect place for human’s population create a lot of problems which are destructive and catastrophic. Deconstruction of the natural environments leads to global warming, climate change, loss of biodiversity, pollution of water and air. These are only few examples of the causes of human’s intervention into nature.

Population growth is the main danger which makes deforestation and other land adjustments even more obvious. More people means more houses, food and loss in natural environment. The eagerness of human’s nature, which means people always need “more” and “bigger” will lead to the complete destruction of natural landscapes. Human’s demolition of nature is cause by their belief that replacing forest with cities and roads will benefit our population.

The project shows metaphorical representation of humans shaping the environment. This abstract technique is supposed to bring audience’s attention to the problem of adjusting natural world into human’s needs and desires.
