Ruth McKee- Untouched Since 1957

Ruth McKee is an aspiring archivist based in Reading who has recently graduated with a BA(Hons) in Photography from the University for the Creative Arts, Farnham in Surrey.

McKee’s photographic work has been inspired with her interest in exploring the past as well as family dynamics. This is demonstrated through her documentary practice as well as use of the archive. Her most recent work titled Untouched Since 1957 was heavily influenced by her family archive. The subject for her work was her grandpa, Bernard W.J. Moffat. She used her untouched family archive, which documents the two years, from 1955 – 1957 that he spent away from home, due to National Service conscription into the RAF Regiment. This project was produced in conjunction with her volunteering work within the archive, which helps to develop her knowledge and practice.

Working with archives allows McKee to reconnect with the past, both personal and unknown, allowing her to connect further with her family and her home country’s past.
