Alexandra Akigg- “Your home was my home”

Alexandra Akigg uses analogue photography techniques as her main medium to document her subjects. This allows the photographers work to create a more thoughtful and meaningful context within her images. “Your home was my home” explores Akigg revisiting her childhood home many years later, investigating the idea of nostalgia, a sense of belonging, and a sense of displacement within the home. The home is still recognizable making it feel very familiar, yet so unfamiliar at the same time. Using the little boy who now lives in the home, as her double as a way to express her childhood self. She finds herself drawn to the traces that are no longer hers, but the traces that now belong to someone else. Focusing on reconnecting the past with the present.
