Katie Richardson- gyn aggle
Katie Richardson is a recent graduate from the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham,
Surrey. Throughout her photographic practice, Richardson explores the subjects of loss,
separation, and considerations of death. Delving into personal explorations, her work stems
from a desire to comprehend these themes. Her works recently have focused around her
two Grandfather’s, whom she never had the chance to meet. These projects have been an
attempt at trying to create a form of a relationship with them whilst trying to comprehend
her grief. She hopes to continue her practice, following similar lines of enquiry to deepen
her personal understanding of her place within the world.
These photographs are stills from the 13 minute film gyn aggle. They are a combination of
family archive images, and newly created ones. gyn aggle (fearless) is a visual, moving
collage of Richardson’s personal discovery of her family’s relationship with motorcycling.
Throughout the film, she explores the lives of her Grandfather and Father and their
connection with the Tourist Trophy (TT) held on the Isle of Man. The story is told through
use of still and moving image, both new and archive, assembled together to present the
journey in an unconventional method of filmic presentation.
